“If plan A doesn’t work? The alphabet has 25 more letters. Stay cool.”
6 years ago I bought a home just about 30 minutes north of the Poconos in Pennsylvania. I was a photographer then, always with a creative eye and always with a love of design and all things beautiful. At that time I had this big old victorian home that was in disrepair – beyond disrepair, truly. It needed a top to bottom makeover to make it habitable and I was determined to do it on my own (with the help of my illustrious father in law) and on a budget. The entire project took us 2 years, but in the end I found a passion for stretching a dollar to be as beautiful and as functional as possible.
This journey of discovery wasn’t just about a house in coal country. It was about discovering that I love to create spaces that people can actually live in. Spaces that allow you to put your feet up, drink a beer and relax with your family. Spaces that create a bubble of comfort after the longest day ever, and spaces that truly revive you so that you can wake up and do it all over again the next day.
Here’s what I am not: I am not a decorator who spends just to spend. I don’t believe in spending more money because of a brand name or an article in a designer magazine. I don’t believe that you should spend more on your coffee table than you do on your family vacation. I am not the designer for you if keeping up with the Joneses is your go to mantra.
Here’s who I am: Real. Honest. Funny. I’m seriously hilarious. Seriously. I’m also a mom, wife and avid reader. I am addicted to coffee, little white dogs and time by myself. I have a knack for solving any problem, and I truly believe everyone has a talent that is unique and amazing.
Here’s who I design for: People who actually live in their homes. People who need real solutions to the “toys are invading my life” scenario. Or people who want a living room that their kids can lounge in to watch movies, but that also looks beautiful when the kids are in bed and it’s just the grownups and a glass of red. I design for REAL people. With real budgets. Want a museum? I’m not your girl. Want to host a party to celebrate life and spend time laughing with friends about the absurdity of the latest headline? Yes, please.
